Youngblood's Triple Jump Highlights Oregon PreviewPublished by
EUGENE -- University of Oregon freshman Jamesha Youngblood posted the school’s second-best triple jump mark of all time in her collegiate outdoor debut to highlight the Ducks’ performances in Saturday’s Oregon Preview at Hayward Field.
The San Pablo, Calif., newcomer unleashed a winning leap of 41-11.25 on her third of four attempts, with the mark surpassed in Oregon annals only by Sara Jessie’s 42-6 in 1995.
Youngblood, who recorded a mark of 41-9 on her first jump before fouling on her second and fourth attempts, owns a personal best of 42-2.75 indoors set a year ago as a high school senior. “Jamesha is a very talented athlete and I thought she looked great,” said Oregon Associate Head Coach Dan Steele. “Robert (Johnson, Oregon’s assistant coach overseeing men’s and women’s jumpers) has done a very good job with her. We’re all going to have a lot of fun watching her progress throughout the year”
Men’s senior sprinter Phil Alexander set his Oregon
best in winning the 200 meters in a meet record 21.04, in addition to
running the third leg on the Ducks’ winning 4x100 relay. The Keizer
standout, who scored fourth in last spring’s 200 meters Pacific-10
