Carlyle Wins the 800-meters as Beavers Finish Well at Oregon PreviewPublished by
EUGENE, Ore. - Laura Carlyle won the 800-meters while Natosha Buruse won her section of the 1,500 as the Oregon State women's track team has competed Saturday at a rainy Oregon Preview at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. "Overall we had a good day today," Oregon State track head coach Kelly Sullivan said. "We got out of today what we needed to as we prepare for our competition next week. Three wins are always good when you run down here." Carlyle, two weeks after setting the Oregon State indoor 3,000 record, won the 800 by over three seconds. She led the race wire-to-wire and finished with a time of 2:12.12. Her performance was a tenth of a second off her personal best time of 2:12.02 set last year. Buruse won her heat of the 1,500 in wire-to-wire fashion as well with teammate Audrey Botti finishing right behind her. Buruse finished with a time of 4:39.56 while Botti finished with a time of 4:40.55. Both times are personal bests after they set personal bests their last time out. Olivia Poblacion ran well and finished third in the 2,000 steeplechase with a time of 7:12.75 in her first time running the event. Hillary Sharp finished with a time of 7:42.98 while Ariel Clark finished with a time of 7:53.80. Taylor Hunt finished fifth in her section of the 400 with a time of 1:01.26. Hunt not only had to battle the other competitors but she had to battle the elements. Right as the race was starting the skies opened. The hail started to fall and the wind started to blow. Marsha Lampi ran well to pace the Beavers in the 3,000 with a time of 10:13.71 while Erin Jones and Whitney Pitman both posted personal bests in the race. Kristin Oennnig finished with a height of 4-11.75 in the high jump. Oregon State football student-athlete Obum Gwacham won the men's high jump with a height of 6-09.50 as everyone found it difficult to put of big heights due to the wet and rainy conditions. It is the second straight year that he was won the high jump at the Oregon Preview. The Beavers will be back in action March 25-26 when they compete at the Stanford Invitational as well as the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
