The little NAIA school from Northeast Portland is going to be a force, even when the Cavaliers go up against the big schools. You can read about it here. Annie Hess unleashed a discus throw of an even 183 feet, which not only was the best of the meet, but is the best college throw this season on any level. You might be seeing her in this summer's U.S. Olympic throwers. Hess was just one of many Concordia throwers to have a big afternoon in Eugene. Mac Wilkins, the Olympic gold medalist, is building quite a program there. Also, I found this story online about the upcoming world cross country championships in Edinburgh, a city I came to love during a stay there as a college student in the mid-1970s. I tried to get the boss, sports editor Mark Hester, to spring for the bucks to send me over to cover it. He never did say, 'no,' because he was laughing so hard. But I got the message.
